Me and Dewey

ME AND DEWEY

Yes I have my strange ways but I don't think I'm the only dude who likes to hang out in the library. I love libraries particularly those that are architectually pleasing that are a joy to dwell within.

Some of the best libraries I've ever come across are in little old New Zealand. There's one in a quiet outlying suburb of Christchurch which overlooks the ocean. The view is stunning and you would never know about it unless you came across it by pure accident.

Of course nothing can surpass our great State Library here in Melbourne town. I love the way it combines art gallery spaces, museum items with books and journals.

If you look for me among the stacks you will probably find me at:

781 History of music

These books are pretty cool. The University of Melbourne Baillieu's music library is a great resource !

388.4 Overseas public transport systems

I know you all now think i'm one of those weird trainspotter types BUT I'M NOT !!!!

Here you can read about the PT miracles round the world. Did you know that in Bogota, Columbia and Curitiba, Brazil whole swathes of road space have been reclaimed and cheap, effective and fast busways put in place alongside some beautiful new parks. Also in the home of the freeway LA now has some great underground rail lines to all the great tourist sights. If it can work there it can work here too !

417.7 History of Language

Yes I've never been sooooo happy the day i discovered the language tree ! So many mysteries so many dialects. Did you know that Hungarian and Finnish are linguistically similar though they are locate in totally different parts of Europe? AND that Khmer from Cambodia is more like the languages of India than its' neighbours in Thaliand or Vietnam ? How did that happen?

Yep the library can keep me in endless wondrous amusement for hours on end !

AND the dewey system is waiting for you ! So go ahead take a number and go for your imaginery trip !
